Accounts Technician

Due to continued success, we are delighted to be seeking an experienced Accounting Technician on behalf of our client, a supplier with 30 years’ experience covering the UK and Ireland.


This role would suit a qualified Accounting Technician or a Part Qualified Accountant. This is 37.5 hours per week between 9am and 5pm however the company can offer a degree of flexibility in hours. There is free parking in an area offering access to the countryside.
 
Joining the team based in the Greater Belfast- Co Down area, the Accounting Technician will be responsible for supporting and improving overall financial management, control, HR, reporting systems, including the provision of detailed financial information, assisting with the strategic planning process, advice and guidance.

Responsibilities will include:
• Preparation and improvement to financial and management information to support and inform management in relation to current, projected and past performance of the business.
• Financial planning within the business including budget preparation/monitoring, cash flow management, assessment of profit margins and provide regular reporting as required.
• Assist management and contribute to the development and implementation of the company’s short, medium and long term business strategies and corresponding KPI’s
• Prepare monthly management accounts using Sage 200 Professional accounting system including detailed financial accounts on a timely basis, including narrative reporting on budget and previous year variances.
• Preparation and review of weekly, monthly and periodic sales team reports including sales, margins, debtors, and KPI’s etc.
• Manage the overall integrity of the stock control system in Sage 200, including standard product costing system, product categories, reporting and product profitability.
• Manage and process all Accounts Payable transactions including supplier invoices (UK, EU, China and other locations) including foreign exchange, suppliers ledger, supplier payments, supplier reconciliations etc.
• Identify and assess cost reduction and profit enhancement opportunities and maximise working capital through operational effectiveness.
• Manage and monitor financial transactions including customer and supplier pricing/ discounts, the maintenance of computerised sales and purchasing ledgers, bank account activity and cash flow.
• Liaise with the company’s accountants and prepare all necessary associated reporting, supporting documentation and accounts file.
• Develop, implement and operate systems and procedures to ensure the integrity of accounting information and safe custody of assets including procedures to detect and eliminate fraud or theft of company assets.
• Manage the company’s FX strategy and analysis of exchange rates in order that the company may develop an appropriate forward planning approach and position itself to take advantage of any beneficial financial opportunities.
• Liaise with the Managing Director regarding cash flow availability with regard to any major purchasing plans and ensure the company is receiving value for money.
• Review and arrange for insurance coverage on an annual basis, including asset, vehicle and liability, and monitor the company’s vehicle lease arrangements.
• Processing of salaries and wages including PAYE, NIC, Pension and all statutory taxation requirements.
• Establish, develop and manage the IT hardware and software systems, including Sage 200 computerised accounting system, to support the business and recommend enhancements and upgrades where appropriate.
• Manage the company’s human resources and health & safety responsibilities and ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and accounting standards and liaise with banks, accountants, HMRC (Vat, PAYE, Corporation Tax etc), Companies House and government agencies in the preparation and supply of financial information relative to the company.
• Provide day to day direction to the administration team, ensuring the effective communication of company information and participate in recruitment, training, performance management and conflict resolution activity in conjunction with the Managing Director.
• Assist the directors/shareholders with personal finance and self-assessment tax return information
• To perform the job in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, especially the Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policy.

Applicants must be a qualified Accounting Technician or part qualified Accountant and demonstrate:

• Experience with financial and management reporting systems and processes, using accounting software systems like Sage 200
• Experience in the preparation of management accounts
• Experience of bookkeeping including bank accounts, debtors and creditors control accounts, VAT returns, payroll & PAYE
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills,
• Evidence of strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
• Evidence of commercial awareness
• Evidence of the ability to independently achieve results while working on own initiative
• Proven effective planning, organisational and time management abilities
• Proficient in the use of computerised accounting software like Sage 200
• Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing organisation. The Accounting Technician will grow with the company and can expect a salary between range of £24 – 28K plus a bonus based achievement of agreed KPI’s.
