Apple Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of our public sector client for a Fire Safety Officer (Risk Assessment) – Band 6.
The successful candidate will provide technical fire safety advice, manage fire safety action plans, monitor contractors and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure fire risks are appropriately managed.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage fire safety across a designated portfolio of premises, working collaboratively with internal departments, external organisations and other stakeholders.
- Undertake Fire Risk Assessments to identify hazards and risks to relevant persons and recommend appropriate risk reduction measures.
- Develop and manage fire safety action plans arising from Fire Risk Assessments.
- Monitor and update action plans within appropriate timescales and proactively follow up actions assigned to others.
- Manage and coordinate the operational delivery of fire safety works through contractors.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve team and departmental objectives and KPIs.
- Provide technical advice on fire safety matters, including statutory obligations, Building Regulations and relevant national and European technical standards.
- Monitor contractor performance, participate in contract performance meetings and escalate issues of non-compliance or poor performance where required.
- Consult with stakeholders including local authority representatives, tenants, staff, community representatives and other relevant parties on fire safety matters.
- Use professional judgement and experience to make recommendations to management where significant fire safety risks are identified or immediate action is required.
- Contribute to the design, development and delivery of internal and external Fire Safety training.
- Assist with the preparation of reports for Health and Safety Committees and other relevant assurance committees.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fire safety legislation, industry best practice and technical developments through continuous professional development.
- Issue works Task Orders through the relevant IT system, including cost centre allocation, priority and work descriptions.
- Approve relevant variations and authorise invoices for payment within delegated levels of authority.
- Monitor and manage complaints, resolving issues and identifying any emerging trends.
- Act as a focal point for general Fire Safety enquiries as directed by the Fire Safety Manager.
- Carry out any other relevant duties required to meet team or departmental objectives.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:
- 1–5 years’ relevant experience.
- NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management qualification.
- Colin Todd Fire Risk Assessment competency training.
- Intermediate IT proficiency.
- Experience or knowledge appropriate to undertaking Fire Risk Assessments and identifying appropriate fire risk reduction measures.
- The ability to manage and prioritise fire safety actions and work to agreed timescales.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to provide technical advice and make recommendations based on professional judgement and experience.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to monitor contractor performance and identify and escalate issues where necessary.
- A commitment to maintaining current knowledge of fire safety legislation and best practice through ongoing professional development.
