Medical Laboratory Assistant – Band 3
Location: Belfast
Salary: Band 3
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Duration: Temporary, Full-Time
Working Hours: 37.5 hrs p/wk. 7.5 hours per day between 7:30am and 5:15pm, initially 8:00am–4:00pm

Apple Recruitment are currently recruiting for 3 x Medical Laboratory Assistants (Band 3) on behalf of a healthcare organisation based in Belfast.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with relevant laboratory experience or a science-based qualification to join a busy laboratory environment and support the delivery of an efficient and comprehensive service.
Key Duties
- Carry out general sample reception and pre-analytical duties.
- Sort, distribute, label, catalogue, store and retrieve specimens.
- Assist with laboratory data processing and the distribution of laboratory reports.
- Prepare specimens for analysis and load samples onto analysers and instruments following appropriate training.
- Carry out routine laboratory tasks and prepare solutions/reagents where required.
- Assist with equipment maintenance, cleaning and calibration procedures.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels of laboratory consumables.
- Handle and dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory colleagues and service users.
- Adhere to all relevant Health & Safety and Infection Prevention and Control procedures.
- Work as part of a team and assist with the training of new or rotating staff.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- 2 GCSEs (Grades A–C) including Maths and English, or equivalent, plus 2 years’ relevant laboratory experience; OR
- 4 GCSEs (Grades A–C) including Maths and English, or equivalent, plus 1 year’s relevant laboratory experience; OR
- A Science A Level (Grades A–E) or equivalent qualification in a science-related subject.
Applicants must also have the ability to work as required across a 24-hour service, including extended hours, overnight, weekends and bank/public holidays.
Desirable Criteria
- GCSE Science subjects.
- Basic computer experience and typing skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to work.
