Job Description

Job Title: Catering Supervisor – Band 3

Location: Craigavon Area Hospital

Duration: Temporary

Salary: Band 3

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Working Pattern: Two positions available:

  • 5 days out of 7, including every other weekend, on a rota between 7:30am – 8:00pm
  • Monday – Friday, on a rota between 7:30am – 8:00pm

Start Date: Immediate

Apple Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of our public sector client for 2 x Catering Supervisors – Band 3 based at Craigavon Area Hospital.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced catering or hospitality professionals to join a busy healthcare catering environment, supervising staff and helping to ensure a high-quality catering service is provided to patients, staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team within areas such as dining room, coffee bar and patient meal service.
  • Monitor and maintain high standards of catering service within areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with planning and supervising staff work schedules and ensure they are followed.
  • Ensure dietary requirements and allergen procedures are appropriately managed.
  • Understand and adhere to HACCP procedures and ensure relevant records are accurately completed.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, portion control and presentation.
  • Ensure personal and food hygiene standards are maintained by yourself and the team.
  • Report food quality issues, equipment faults, defects, accidents and incidents as required.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, COSHH, food hygiene, food safety, waste management and environmental cleanliness procedures.
  • Complete relevant catering audits and take appropriate action where required.
  • Assist with planning staff rotas and arranging appropriate cover.
  • Participate in the training and development of new and existing staff.
  • Deal with telephone queries and take appropriate action.
  • Undertake cash-handling duties when required.
  • Assist with complaints in line with relevant procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and other departments.
  • Ensure provisions, consumables and equipment are used correctly and economically.
  • Support a positive and effective team environment.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a customer/patient service role within either a healthcare environment or the hospitality industry.
  • The ability to organise workload and prioritise duties effectively.
  • The ability to accept responsibility, use initiative and remain calm when dealing with difficult situations.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • The ability to supervise a team of staff.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work, including COSHH regulations.
  • A willingness to undertake appropriate training, including training relating to food safety.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as part of a rota.

Desirable criteria may include:

  • Basic IT skills.
  • Experience working within an acute hospital.
  • A Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering.
