Apple Recruitment are recruiting for a Clinical Coder (Band 4) on behalf of HSCNI.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Analyse case notes, discharge letters, outpatient letters and other relevant documentation relating to patient diagnosis, operations/procedures and episodes of care.
- Abstract and translate medical terminology into current diagnostic (ICD) and procedural (OPCS) classification ensuring that a comprehensive record of a patient’s episode is captured and prioritised appropriately.
- Validate, input and access information using appropriate Clinical and Information Systems in completion of the coding function.
- Liaise with senior medical staff or other appropriate officers to clarify data anomalies as required.
- Advise on appropriate codes to use for those using analytic tools to extract coded data.
- Adhere to the Regional Clinical Coding Policy and relevant Trust policies, procedures and agreements
- To assist the Regional Clinical Coding Trainer to mark clinical coding exercises completed during Foundation, Refresher and Revision Clinical Coding Courses
- To assist in preparing training materials for the various courses provided by the Regional Clinical Coding Trainer
- To assist the Regional Clinical Coding Auditor with the audit process for example in the preparation of materials for audit.

Applicants must, by the closing date:
1.) Demonstrate experience in the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
2.) Have completed a National Clinical Coding Standards Course (NCCSC).
3.) Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written with internal and external stakeholders
4.) Candidates must have good time management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
5.) Ability to work in a Team.
6.) Flexibility to work in a changing environment and attention to detail
7.) Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by The Organisation which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
Desirable Criteria:
1.) Knowledge of SNOMED CT and other clinical terminologies.
Further Details:
- Hourly Rate: £12.86
- Hours: 37.5 hours, Mon-Fri 9am-5pm
- Duration: Up to 3 months with possibility of extension
- Location: Belfast, Ballymena, Armagh, Derry/Londonderry sites (applicant to be based at site closest to their home address).
