Job Title: Day Care Support Worker 

Location: Gilford, Craigavon

Salary: £12.31 per hour

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

On behalf of our client Apple Recruitment Services are seeking a dedicated Day Care Support Worker to join the Mental Health and Disability Services / Adult Community Services directorate. This is a temporary post for 3 months initially, offering the opportunity to deliver high-quality, person-centred care to adults with complex needs.

 

Main Purpose:
To support adults with complex health care, behavioural, or disability needs in a day care setting by delivering person-centred care plans, daily activities, and safe transport services. The role includes assisting with personal care, participating in therapeutic programmes, and undertaking guide help duties to ensure the wellbeing, safety, and dignity of service users.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to person-centred assessment and delivery of individual care plans.

  • Support daily activities and individual or group programmes inside and outside the centre.

  • Assist service users with personal, physical, and complex care needs, including manual handling.

  • Help provide meals following individual risk assessments and guidance.

  • Implement safe administration and recording of medicines in line with Trust policies.

  • Undertake guide help duties: monitoring service users during transport, assisting on and off vehicles, ensuring safe use of harnesses/straps, and handling personal items securely.

  • Report changes, incidents, or concerns appropriately, maintaining accurate records.

  • Promote service user involvement, liaise effectively with carers and the wider team.

  • Uphold infection prevention, safeguarding, health and safety, and equality standards.

  • Participate in induction, supervision, training, and development to maintain competency.

Essential Criteria:

  • NVQ/QCF/VRQ/RQF Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent),
    OR Level 2 plus one year’s paid experience delivering direct care (ACS roles),
    OR 4 GCSEs (A–C) including English plus one year’s paid care experience,
    OR 2 years’ paid experience delivering direct care (Mental Health Services roles only).

  • Willingness to register with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) if not already registered.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments may apply).

  • Ability and willingness to assist with physical and personal care needs.

  • Ability to work as part of a team while using your own initiative.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Ability to cope with stressful situations.

  • Interest in supporting adults with learning, physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working within disability and adult community services.

  • NVQ/QCF/VRQ/RQF Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification.
