 Planning Officer

Location: Mossley Mill, Newtownabbey (with potential assignments across the Borough)
Salary: £20.02 per hour
Duration: Temporary, Full-Time, 37 hours per week
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

About the Role

On behalf of our client, Apple Recruitment Services is seeking a dedicated Planning Officer to join the Economic Development & Planning team. This temporary role involves supporting the Senior Planning Officer in delivering a high-quality Planning Service within the Borough. Key responsibilities include managing Planning Assistants, preparing reports, and providing professional planning advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and support Planning Assistants and technical staff, ensuring effective performance and professional development.

  • Planning Applications: Manage and assess planning applications, providing recommendations and preparing reports for the Planning Committee.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with residents, elected members, and external organisations, offering professional advice on planning matters.

  • Policy Development: Contribute to the preparation of planning policies and the Local Development Plan, aligning with statutory requirements.

  • Site Inspections: Conduct site visits and surveys to inform planning decisions and ensure compliance with regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in a recognised planning qualification (e.g., Town and Country Planning, Environmental Science, Geography) with 2 years’ relevant experience, or

  • HNC/HND in relevant fields with 3 years’ relevant experience.

Desirable:

  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or Irish Planning Institute (IPI).

  • Experience in staff management and GIS applications.
