💷 Pay Rate: £21.65 per hour
🕒 Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
📄 Duration: Temporary assignment until 31st July 2026

About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer (Food) on behalf of our public sector client.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Environmental Health professional to join a busy Environmental Services team, supporting food safety, public health, and regulatory compliance across the borough.
The successful candidate will undertake a range of environmental health duties, including inspections, investigations, enforcement activities, and providing professional advice to businesses and members of the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out food safety inspections, audits and risk assessments in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance.
- Investigate complaints and incidents relating to food safety and public health.
- Take appropriate enforcement action, including serving statutory notices and preparing prosecution files where required.
- Assist with investigations relating to food poisoning outbreaks, infectious diseases, product recalls and other public health matters.
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to businesses, residents and partner organisations.
- Prepare reports, maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with information governance requirements.
- Participate in education and awareness programmes to promote food safety and public health.
- Liaise with government departments, regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.
- Support service improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental objectives.
- Attend court proceedings, public meetings and working groups as required.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must possess:
- A Level 6 qualification (Degree level or above) in Environmental Health that provides eligibility for membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
- A minimum of 6 months’ relevant Environmental Health experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of current Environmental Health legislation.
- Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications and IT systems.
- A full current driving licence (or access to suitable transport enabling the duties of the post to be carried out).
